On one of our guided elk hunts, during a prime rut hunt, we had a group of hunters take a group of bulls that are sure to be unmatched by any other trophy elk hunting trip. On this guided elk hunt, hunters were able to take four bulls over five hundred inches and three more bulls over 460 inches.

The day started just like all our guided elk hunts do at 4:30 am for a light breakfast and coffee then we went out the door to head up the mountain. At daylight one of the hunting guides spotted a monster typical bull from the top of the mountain. Knowing how big of a bull he was, the guide took his client off the mountain to put a stalk on the trophy bull elk of a lifetime. Once in the basin, the hunting guide located the bull and positioned the hunter for a shot. With one swift bullet the bull went down marking the first 500-inch bull of this guided elk hunt. This bull scored an impressive 517 inches as a perfect 6x6 trophy bull. This is still to this day the biggest typical bull we at Severson Outfitters have ever taken on a guided elk hunt.

Just a short time later another hunting guide came over the radios with word they were stalking yet another 500-inch bull with the client on his guaranteed elk hunt. This hunt took plenty of patience with both the hunting guide and hunter waiting for the monster 530-inch bull to present a shot opportunity. Once down and next to the bull, the hunter said that this was without a doubt the best guided elk hunt he had ever been on.

After a short midday break the hunters and guides returned to the ranch to once again head up the mountain to continue this group's epic guided elk hunt. Up next, a bull was taken with a bow at 35 yards that scored an impressive 474 inches. This hunter has been back multiple times since this hunt for additional guaranteed elk hunts with us at Severson Outfitters.

No sooner than that bull was in the walk-in cooler, word came in that another 525-inch trophy bull was down with another hunter on his guided hunting trip. This bull was obviously using the wallow he was shot on, being completely covered in thick black mud. With that bull down in the brush, it brought this action-packed day of guided elk hunts to an end.

Bright and early the next morning, the hunting guides and clients all headed back out on the pursuit of bulls seen the day before. At the break of daylight on this day’s guided elk hunt, a 480-inch typical monster bull was spotted chasing cows up the mountain side in full rut. With a plan quickly put in place, the hunting guides and hunter started the walk up the ridge to circle the herd in hopes of catching them before they made it to the bedding area for the morning. As luck would have it for this hunter, the monster typical elk crossed the game trail at just twenty-two yards presenting the dream shot for any hunter. With perfect shot placement, the bull of a lifetime made it fifty yards and went down. With this trophy bull elk down on the mountain it marked number 5 for this group of guided hunters.

Meanwhile, the final elk hunter of the group with muzzleloader in hand made the final approach on a trophy class 495-inch bull. Finding the bull bedded in a small patch of brush the hunter and his guide made the approach with the wind in their face. Once within one hundred yards they waited for the bull to stand again. After a couple of hours, the bull stood to head for a wallow below. Once again, with a perfect shot out of the muzzleloader the bull instantly collapsed to the ground right in front of the hunter and hunting guide. With this sixth bull down, this marked what is sure to be one of the best guided trophy elk hunts in the country.
